Better Business Bureau warns of IRS Scams

The Better Business Bureau reports a significant increase in identity theft complaints related to unemployment. Victims could receive 1099-G tax forms for benefits they didn’t receive.

The bureau recommends reaching out to state unemployment agencies to report the fraud and get it corrected.

But as people turn increasingly digital during the pandemic, taxpayers are asked to be on alert for all scams.

The IRS generally starts communication with you by US mail so be wary of phone calls and emails asking your for your personal information.
