A concert will be held Saturday, November 25 at the Samuel Powhatan Carter House Pavilion (formerly Carter at Main), 829 E. Elk Ave., Elizabethton, TN from 2 – 3 pm.
The event is free to the public. Donations will be accepted at the event for Assistance and Resources Ministries (ARM) of Elizabethton to help people in need. ARM was formed in 1991 at the request of the Carter County Ministerial Association to help area churches and individuals coordinate benevolent aid. ARM is a centralized source of help for those in need in Carter County. ARM’s mission is to secure resources from donations, financial gifts, benefits, grants, volunteer workers, and other means to provide assistance to the needy in Carter County in the most efficient and equitable manner possible.
The special program features the local Christian musical group, ‘Lifted’ consisting of Loretta Bowers, Tony Rominger, Fred Goodwin, Pat Kelly, and Howard Bloom.
‘Lifted’s lead singer is Loretta Bowers. Bowers, a native of Elizabethton, has been performing professionally since she was a teenager. She sang for the opening of Freedom Hall in Johnson City on stage with Bob Hope. She also performed on Broadway and in many other well-known musical venues.
Tony Rominger, an East TN native, worked for several years with Danny Fetzer in a band called ‘Indigo Spring’, where Danny played keyboards. Rominger has played professionally with many well-known bands and musicians including Chuck Berry and Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose, Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett, and many others. He is best known for playing tenor saxophone.
Fred Goodwin, keyboardist, and multi-instrument musician is also an East TN native who taught in ETSU’s Department of Music. He has played with Frank Sinatra Jr., Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller, Wilson Pickett, and many others and has accompanied Loretta and the Bowers family for over 50 years.
Pat Kelly, originally from Akron, Ohio, has played the drums since his teenage years and now plays with many groups in the Tri-Cities including The Jonesboro Rhythm Express and the First Christian Church praise band.
Howard Bloom comes to East Tennessee by way of New York and Florida. He plays bass with many groups including the Jonesboro Rhythm Express, the Tri-Cities Jazz Orchestra, and the First Christian Church praise band.
