Hope Helps Tennessee looking for Volunteers

Hope Helps is based in the Allandale community of Kingsport. Executive Director Connie Johnson says that the nonprofit’s reach goes far beyond. “God told us when we started that I’m going to send them, you’re to watch them, you’re to love them, you’re to help them,” she said.

Hope Helps was established several years ago. Ever since, it has served those in need with free food, clothes and household items.

Anyone can visit monthly for help. While a social security card and two proofs of address on hand are preferred, but they’ll work with you if you don’t have that.

The 501(c)(3) is funded entirely by people, businesses and other organizations in the community. It also gets a boost from monthly yard sales, donations, as well as grants.

They are grateful for a handful of people who are dedicated volunteers. However, much more are needed, whether to lift items, sort through boxes, work on the computer or organize fundraisers.

Hope Helps is open to clients Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 10 a.m. Recipients must apply each time. Applications, which are completed on site, must be in by 3:15 p.m. that day.
