An Important Message from General Manager Adam McCain

Dear Friend,

As you think about your life, do you consider yourself to be mostly a ‘glass half full’ or ‘glass half empty’ thinker?  Have you ever given thought to the people surrounding you?  There is a quote by Jim Rohn that says, “You’re the average of the five people you spend most of your time with.”  The concept is that our thoughts, behaviors, who we become are deeply influenced by the people most frequently in our lives.  If you spend five minutes on social media, you learn of influencers whose aim is to convince all of us how we should think, buy, do.

Perhaps like me one of the ways you find yourself drained quickly is being around negative people.  I’m not talking about those who have the occasional off day where it’s hard to see something good, but those who can find wrong in everything remind me of Winnie the Pooh’s friend Eeyore, who seemed to live in a perpetual state of doom and gloom.

Your WCQR is here because friends like you grasp how important it is for friends to hear the messaging that is life-giving and encouraging.  In a news cycle that floods our mind and heart with so much bad in the world, the gospel reminds us that we find our hope in Christ who has overcome the world.  Your financial support makes it possible for real ministry to happen every single day.  As we reflect on the last few months, we can see how God continues to place so many dear people in our path who are hurting and seeking relief that through what the world offers is a temporal solution.

The theme for WCQR’s Fall Fundraiser, set to begin September 25th, is Counting My Blessings!  You will hear impactful stories from people who are grateful for how God is active and faithful.  We believe that through the generosity of friends such as yourself, God will provide the funds needed to enable WCQR to be a source of hope and encouragement, even as friends walk through difficult trials that lend to questioning God’s presence or care.

Your gift help build our Challenge Fund which will encourage other listeners to call in with gifts to match yours, as we work together to impact His Kingdom.  When you partner with WCQR, you make it possible for God to use uplifting songs like one sung by Seph Schlueter,

It’s like it was yesterday. I was praying for a miracle. Scared to have a little hope.

And now looking back today. Seeing all the things You’ve done. I can’t even add them up.

One, two, three. Up to infinity. I’d run out of numbers before I could thank You for everything.

God, I’m still counting my blessings.  All that You’ve done in my life.

The more that I look in the details. The more of Your goodness I find.

Father on this side of Heaven, I know that I’ll run out of time.

But I will keep counting my blessings. Knowing I can’t count that high.”

There is such power in stories of God’s care and provision in situations that can sometimes knock the wind out of us… a sudden loss of income due to a layoff, a relationship that frays under the weight of betrayal, a pregnancy that doesn’t come full term, a scary health diagnosis, a feeling of despair that can’t be shaken with mere suggestions of ‘pulling yourself up by your boot straps’.  I love this part of the song…

And I know the seasons never lost forever.

So God, I will remember all the reasons my heart has to be grateful.

All the times you’ve been faithful to me.”

In Luke 17, we read, “Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee.  As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him.  They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, ‘Jesus, Master, have pity on us!’  When he saw them, he said, ‘Go, show yourselves to the priests.’  And as they went, they were cleansed.  One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.  He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him – and he was a Samaritan.  Jesus asked, ‘Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?  Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?’  Then he said to him, ‘Rise and go; your faith has made you well.’”

It’s easy for us to fall prey to the belief that we are due credit for any of our successes or gains.  Our culture encourages hustle and self-sufficiency.  We also tend to quickly blame God when things fall apart, or we are disgruntled.  It’s a privilege for WCQR to remind the thousands who listen that we owe all praise and glory to God, even when our circumstances feel less than worthy of such a response.  The one leper (who due to his social status grasped that even in his lower state God had seen fit to heal) realized that without Christ he was unable to heal himself, destined to remain in his despair.

We truly appreciate that there are a lot of pressing needs and financial strain is a real issue for many.  That’s why I can assure you that your gift is used wisely, as together we work to fulfill our mission.  You are a huge part of so many changed lives!
